Supporting Resident Safety & Local Business: Campbell Wharf Parking Discussions with Milton Keynes City Council
No.1 Barbers Campbell Wharf recently addressed Milton Keynes City Mayor and Full Council regarding parking and safety concerns affecting Campbell Wharf and Campbell Park. Following a constructive council meeting and on-site visit, local independent businesses are working collaboratively with councillors to help improve infrastructure, protect resident safety, and support the continued growth of this vibrant waterfront community hub in Central Milton Keynes.
At No.1 Barbers Campbell Wharf, being part of the community means more than delivering high-quality traditonal men’s haircuts, the latest taper fades and precision beard trims in Central Milton Keynes. It means actively supporting the residents, families and independent businesses that make this area so special.
Recently, we attended the monthly full council meeting at Milton Keynes City Council to formally raise concerns about ongoing parking and infrastructure challenges affecting Campbell Wharf and Campbell Park.
Addressing the Council
I was given one minute to address the Mayor and councillors on behalf of local residents and small independent businesses.
Our message was clear:
Without practical improvements to parking and infrastructure, we risk undermining the incredible work that has gone into building Campbell Wharf into one of the most scenic and vibrant waterfront destinations in Milton Keynes.
Importantly, this is not simply a business issue.
The current parking situation is increasingly impacting resident safety. Limited legitimate parking options can result in vehicles stopping near junctions, pedestrian walkways and access routes, creating avoidable risks for families, cyclists and pedestrians who use Campbell Park and the surrounding waterfront daily.
A Constructive Site Visit
Following the council meeting, Councillor Jennifer Wilson-Marklew, Cabinet Member for the Public Realm, agreed to visit Campbell Wharf in person alongside highways and parking officers.
The meeting was hosted at Canal St Coffee and included representatives from:
-
No.1 Barbers Campbell Wharf
-
Canal St Coffee
-
Electra Milton Keynes’ Community Boat Project
-
The PT Workspace
-
Trek Bikes
The visit was constructive and positive throughout. Council representatives experienced firsthand how challenging it can be to find parking in the area and listened carefully to the concerns raised.
They agreed to fully investigate the situation and explore potential solutions.
Our approach remains clear; collaboration and inclusivity, not confrontation.
Protecting a Growing Community Hub
Campbell Wharf is a unique waterfront setting in the heart of Central Milton Keynes. It blends residential living, green space, fitness, hospitality and independent retail in a way that few areas of the city can.
Infrastructure must now reflect how the area is used today.
As a local barber in Milton Keynes, we see daily how important accessibility is for customers visiting for a men’s haircut, precision burst fade or professional beard trim. A negative parking experience can discourage visits, affecting both businesses and the wider community atmosphere.
Independent businesses are the heartbeat of thriving neighbourhoods. Ensuring residents feel safe and visitors can access the area responsibly benefits everyone.
We remain hopeful that positive improvements are on the horizon and are committed to continuing constructive dialogue with the council.
Community First, Always.
At No.1 Barbers Campbell Wharf, we are proud to serve the Central Milton Keynes community.
Beyond the barber chair, we will continue supporting initiatives that help Campbell Wharf flourish safely, sustainably and successfully for years to come.
If you are looking for an experienced barber in Milton Keynes offering men’s scissor haircuts, mod haircuts and beard grooming in a modern waterfront setting, we look forward to welcoming you soon.
